PROJECT OVERVIEW

For modern retail store, lighting plays a much greater role than simply providing visibility. A well-designed lighting system can improve product presentation, enhance visual comfort, guide customer movement, and help create a more attractive and recognizable in-store environment.

For the CBA chain store in Slovakia, TRIECO delivered a customized trunking lighting solution designed to meet the different illumination requirements of shelves, open aisles, and key merchandise areas. Built around a 1472 mm, 58 W linear lighting module, the system combines flexible optics, high-quality light, and efficient installation within one integrated lighting platform.

The result is a retail lighting environment that balances functionality, visual quality, installation efficiency, and merchandising performance.

THE LIGHTING CHALLENGE

Retail environments contain multiple functional zones, each with different lighting requirements. Shelf displays require precise vertical illumination to ensure products and labels remain clearly visible, while open aisles need broader and more uniform ambient lighting to maintain comfortable overall brightness. At the same time, food and packaged goods need high-quality light to present their natural colors and textures accurately. The lighting system also needs to integrate smoothly with the store layout, support efficient installation, and maintain a clean, continuous visual appearance throughout the space.

To address these requirements, TRIECO developed a flexible and modular trunking light system capable of adapting to different retail zones without introducing unnecessary complexity.

ZONE-SPECIFIC OPTICAL DESIGN

One of the key advantages of the solution is its ability to apply different beam distributions within the same integrated trunking system.

For shelving areas, 25° asymmetric optics are used to direct light precisely toward vertical merchandise displays. This focused distribution improves shelf illumination while minimizing unnecessary spill light and glare, helping products remain clearly visible without creating visual discomfort for shoppers.
For open aisles and circulation areas, 120° wide-beam optics provide broader and more uniform illumination. The wider distribution creates a bright and welcoming environment while maintaining balanced light levels across the store.
By combining asymmetric and wide-beam optics within one flexible system, the solution allows each area of the supermarket to receive the right light for its specific function.

HIGH-QUALITY LIGHT FOR MERCHANDISE PRESENTATION

Lighting quality is particularly important in food retail, where color, freshness, and visual appearance strongly influence how products are perceived.

The CBA lighting solution uses a 4000 K color temperature with a color rendering index of CRI 90, providing clean, natural, and high-quality illumination throughout the store. The high color-rendering performance helps reproduce product colors more accurately, allowing fresh food, beverages, packaging, and other merchandise to appear more vivid and visually appealing.
This balanced light spectrum supports clearer product presentation while creating a comfortable and consistent visual environment for customers throughout their shopping journey.

FAST AND FLEXIBLE INSTALLATION

Installation efficiency was another important consideration for the project. TRIECO’s trunking system incorporates a quick-connect T-type connector, simplifying system assembly and allowing lighting modules to be installed rapidly and securely.
The modular design helps reduce installation complexity while providing flexibility for different store layouts and lighting configurations. Continuous lines of light can be arranged according to aisles, shelving, and architectural features, creating a clean and coordinated ceiling appearance.
This continuous lighting structure also contributes to intuitive visual guidance, naturally reinforcing circulation paths and helping customers navigate different areas of the store.

ENHANCING KEY RETAIL AREAS

Beyond general illumination, the trunking system also enables lighting to become part of the store's visual identity.
In selected areas such as the wine section, continuous linear lighting helps define the space and create a more distinctive atmosphere. Through carefully coordinated light distribution and layout, key merchandise zones can be visually differentiated from surrounding areas while remaining fully integrated into the overall lighting concept.
This approach allows functional retail lighting to support both merchandising requirements and the wider interior design.
